Built in 1927, the historic South Park Cascades were a manmade water feature using stratified rock quarried from the park itself. The Friends of South Park was proud to be a contributor to its recent restoration.

Who We Are

The Friends of South Park (Friends) is an organization composed of volunteers who live in Allegheny County and care about the rich history and natural beauty of the 2,013-acre park located in Bethel and South Park townships.  Created by Allegheny County Council (Council) in 2002, the organization was established to recommend ways to Council of help maintain and improve South Park   Its members are appointed by Allegheny County Council to three-year terms and serve without compensation.

Allegheny County Parks Trails

A new Trails App gives users information on the over 180 miles of trails in the Allegheny County Parks System. Using their mobile devices, residents and visitors alike will be able to discover and navigate park trails both in advance of a hike, and while in the park too.
